Dave Zirin, Press Action's 2005 and 2006 Sportswriter of the Year, has been called "an icon in the world of progressive sports". Robert Lipsyte says he is "the best young sportswriter in the United States." He is both a columnist for SLAM Magazine, a regular contributor to the Nation Magazine, and a semi-regular op-ed writer for the Los Angeles Times.
His first book "What's My Name, Fool?" Sports and Resistance in the United States" (Haymarket Books) has entered its second printing and is available in stores and at haymarketbooks.org.
His new book "The Muhammad Ali Handbook" was publlished for MQ Publications.
On June 1st, Zirin will be releasing his long-awaited "Welcome to the Terrordome: The Pain, Politics, and Promise of Sports" for Haymarket Books (with a foreword by the immortal Chuck D.)
He is a weekly television commentator [via satellite] for The Score, Canada's number one 24-hour sports network.
Zirin has brought his blend of sports and politics to multiple television programs including ESPN's Outside the Lines, ESPN Classic, the BBC's Extratime, CNBC's The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch (debating steroids with Jose Canseco and John Rocker), C-SPAN's BookTV, the WNBC Morning News in New York City; and Democracy Now with Amy Goodman.
He has also been on numerous national radio programs including National Public Radio's Talk of the Nation; Air America and XM Radio's On the Real' with Chuck D and Gia'na Garel; The Laura Flanders Show, Radio Nation with Marc Cooper; ESPN radio; Stars and Stripes Radio; WOL's The Joe Madison Show; Pacifica's Hard Knock Radio, and many others.
He is also the Thursday morning sports voice on WBAI's award winning "Wake Up Call with Deepa Fernandes."
Zirin is also working on "A People's History of Sports," part of Howard Zinn's People's History series for the New Press. In addition he just signed to do a book with Scribner (Simon & Schuster.)
Zirin is the author of a children's book called "My Name is Erica Montoya de la Cruz" (RC Owen).
He is working on a sports documentary with Barbara Kopple's Cabin Creek films on sports and social movements in the United States.

Son of Nun:A Baltimore city high school teacher, organizer, activist, and poet, son of nun (s.o.n.) doesn't just entertain his crowds he empowers them. s.o.n. has performed at universities, activist conferences, demonstrations, rallies such as the Sorry State of the Union in front of the U.S. Capitol, and at nightclubs in Baltimore, DC, New York, Pennsylvania, and Chicago to name a few. He's opened for Mr. Lif, Akrobatic, Buck 65, Odd Jobs, Roni Size & Reprazent, and performed with Adam F., Diesel Boy, DJ Die, DJ Krust, and others.
s.o.n. has appeared on the Invisible Records two disc compilation notes from thee real underground volume 2 with King Rhythm, and on the critically acclaimed WHAT’S LEFT album by King Rhythm on the Quatermass label (visit www.kingrhythm.com for reviews). s.o.n.'s range extends from hip hop, to spoken word, to drum 'n' bass, to freestyling with a live band. An active member and organizer in various social justice movements, s.o.n. brings a fresh, thought provoking, and much needed perspective to an art form plagued with violence, materialism, and sexism. Earlier this summer the song “Fight Back” from s.o.n.’s full length cd Blood and Fire - was selected from over 500 submissions to appear on the second volume of the renowned Peace Not War cd compilation with artists such as Anti Flag, Ani DiFranco, Paris, Lyrics Born, The Evens, Sonic Youth, and others to benefit antiwar groups. The compilation will feature a 20 page booklet featuring statements and artwork from various artists against the war and occupation of Iraq.
Most recently another song, “Free Palestine”, from s.o.n.’s full length cd was chosen to appear on NPR’s (National Public Radio) Open Mic Stage. A campaign emerged to support the song and guarantee it a place in the ‘Favorites’ section of the site. Thousands of people voted for the song and messages were posted on countless listservs, and activist websites from United for Peace and Justice lists, to Al-Awda, to Italy’s Indymedia web page. It was voted, overwhelmingly, to be the best song of the week by visitors to the site and now appears on the “Open Mic Favorites” column of links on that page where it will remain for the rest of the year.
