2640docs is proud to present an evening of short documentaries about Marshall "Eddie" Conway.

Hosted by Dr. Lester Spence, featuring “Comrade Sunshine” by Cameron Granadino and “The Return” by Babatunde Salam, Will Arenas, and Jeorge Benton.

“Comrade Sunshine”

Set in Baltimore and filmed during the Summer of 2012, Cameron Granadino’s short documentary focuses on the friendship between Dominique Stevenson, whose Friend of a Friend program—co-founded by former Black Panther Eddie Conway, helps men in prison through peer mentoring, and Wahid Shakur, a recently released 20-something now working with her to help build community. As she attempts to guide him in making a smooth transition back into society, Wahid faces the new challenge of life on parole. Dominique, meanwhile, continues to raise questions about the dire impacts of incarceration.

“The Return: the story of Marshall ‘Eddie’ Conway”

This short biographical documentary uses extensive archival footage and Conway’s own testimony to portray his life’s work as a medical orderly, Minister of Defense of the Baltimore chapter of the Black Panther Party, political prisoner, and activist.
