Please join us in welcoming the Baltimore Science Cafe back to Red Emma'sMosquitoes rely on their exquisitely tuned sense of smell to hunt humans. But how does the mosquito nose know you are close by? Dr Conor McMeniman, a neurobiologist at the Johns Hopkins Malaria Research Institute has spent much of his career trying to decode the molecular mechanics of the mosquito olfactory system, and the chemistry of human scent. He will present an overview of his smell research on the Zika mosquito Aedes aegypti, and how his research group is hacking the inner workings of the mosquito brain to combat Zika and other mosquito-borne diseases.
