The BUGSS Science Slam is an event featuring scientific talks by scientists presenting their research work in a short timeframe to a general, non-expert audience.

As a form of science communication, slams are meant to be entertaining and engaging to a diverse audience. In turn, the audience judges the scientist’s presentation with the hope that this feedback will help improve their skills with the public.

We feel that Red Emma's is a good fit for this event since open science is in the US is under politically motivated attack by the current adiministration. Subjects under particular scrutiny include research on any trans issues, climate science, the science of vaccines, and any efforts at equity or even diversity in the sciences. All of these subjects have been a part of Science Slam talks in the past.
