Through the lens of renowned filmmaker and photographer David Manigault, this photo series celebrates black Baltimore while taking you on a journey through the city's tumultuous history, its vibrant culture, and its resilient spirit.

BLACK BODY: BALTIMORE IN BLACK AND WHITE is a visual exploration of the Baltimore uprisings, the East vs West peace rally, and everyday life in Baltimore. From the streets of Baltimore this book captures the beauty and complexity of a city that has seen both tragedy and triumph. It is a testament to the strength of the people of Baltimore and a reminder of the power of collective action.

This book will explore the power of Manigault's work, capturing a historic moment in Baltimore. Manigault serves as an inspiration to others from similar backgrounds who may be facing similar obstacles, showing that with perseverance and hard work, anyone can overcome their circumstances and achieve their dream.

David Manigault is an artist, photographer, and filmmaker known for his work that challenges dominant narratives of Black beauty and resilience. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Manigault was a talented basketball point guard who developed a keen interest in mass communication during his undergraduate years at Frostburg State University, where he earned his B.A. in Mass Communications.

Throughout his career, Manigault has focused on creating images and films that uplift and empower the Black community. He is particularly interested in exploring themes of black empowerment and self-love, and his work often challenges the ways in which Black people are represented.

One of Manigault's most notable projects “Poet Pride” was centered around basketball as Black beauty. Manigault’s creative work is often inspired by his upbringing in East and West Baltimore. Through this work, he seeks to reclaim and redefine what it means to be beautiful as a person of color, celebrating the unique features and characteristics that are often overlooked.

Today, Manigault has been a visiting artist and a lecturer for youth art empowerment. Manigault continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in art, photography, and filmmaking, using his creative talents to challenge dominant narratives and create new visions of Black beauty and resilience. www.manigaultglobalentertainment.com
