Eva Bartlett is an independent Canadian activist and freelance journalist who has spent long periods in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip volunteering with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) and reporting from the ground. In 2007, she lived for 8 months in Nablus, Khalil (Hebron) and various villages under Israeli military lock-down, documenting the violations of the Israeli army and colonists, including raids, violent settler attacks, Israeli army house demolitions and illegal arrests, and the many brutal realities of Palestinians' lives under Israeli occupation. Join us for a discussion with Eva about her experiences in the West Bank!

More information:

Eva participated in nonviolent demonstrations against the Israeli separation Wall encaging and annexing in the occupied West Bank, as well as against Israeli military roadblocks, & Jewish-only highways in the West Bank, She slept for months in the tents of Palestinians who faced unreasonable demolition orders and random, brutal attacks by extreme illegal Israeli settlers. During this time, she witnessed Israeli land annexation, Israeli settlers' attacks against Palestinians harvesting their olives, and Israeli army brutality against Palestinian civilians. She was twice arrested and ultimately deported and banned from Palestine by the occupying Israeli authorities.

In November 2008, Eva sailed to Gaza with the third Free Gaza Movement boat from Cyprus to the Gaza Strip where she joined the ISM in accompanying fishermen on the sea and farmers in the border regions. In both cases, fishers and farmers are violently attacked by Israeli army, injured, killed, or abducted.

During the 2008-2009 Israeli massacre of Gaza, Eva and other ISM members joined Palestinian medics in their ambulances, documenting the victims of Israel's massacre, including Palestinian medics and rescuers.

During the November 2012 Israeli attacks on Gaza, Eva documented from a central Gaza Strip hospital.

From November 2008 until June 2010, Eva continued this work, also writing for AlJazeera (1), Inter Press Services (2), The Electronic Intifada (3), New Internationalist (4), and CBC radio (5), in addition various online media.

She has given numerous talks on Gaza across Canada and in northwestern USA.
