Nearly four years after a popular uprising swept through its cities and led to the resignation of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, Yemen is often sited as a model of success for political transition, as well as United States' counterterrorism efforts in the Arab world.
Yet this is far from the truth. Join Yemeni-American activist, Rooj al-Wazir and Laura Kasinof, former NY Times reporter and author of Don't Be Afraid of the Bullets: an accidental war correspondent in Yemen, for a discussion on current events in Yemen.
Laura Kasinof is a former Yemen correspondent for the New York Times and author of Don't Be Afraid of the Bullets: an accidental war correspondent in Yemen, a memoir about her time in Yemen during the Arab Spring. An Arabic speaker, she lived between Cairo and Sanaa for nearly five years. Laura also has written for the Washington Monthly, Guernica, Foreign Policy and the Christian Science Monitor, among others, and has been featured on NPR, BBC World and al-Jazeera International.
