Using self portraiture in collage-like compositions, these thoughts, alongside themes of time, change and growth, show themselves through vivid and expressive color usage, texture, line, and pattern within the work. There is an emphasis on emotion rather than realism, which highlights their overall stylized quality. The purpose of these works is to make the viewer feel and connect to the artist on a mental level, reflecting on the thoughts and themes being presented, as well for the viewer to make connections from the pieces to themselves.
Brea Branche is a recent college graduate from Salisbury University, receiving her BFA in painting this year. As an emerging Baltimore City artist, her focus on representation and self discovery are clear within her work. Born and raised in Baltimore, Brea wishes to create work that not only she but the people in her community can relate and connect to; her work is an extension of her. In the future, Brea wants to give back to her community and the city of Baltimore by creating works depicting the city in a more positive light, as well as to inspire others to create and support creativity within their everyday.
