Ferguson, the State of Black America, and Where Do We Go From Here?

This event has already happened.

Red Emma's
Join Dr. Karsonya Wise Whitehead, assistant professor of Communications at Loyola University Maryland, and Rev. Heber Brown III, pastor of Pleasant Hope Baptist Church, for a Community Teach-In on "Ferguson, the State of Black America, and Where Do We Go From Here?"

Originally, this was going to be a normal book event for Dr. Whitehead's new book on developing critical historical pedagogy:

Earlier this year, Karsonya Wise Whitehead presented the excellent work of archival scholarship, Notes from a Colored Girl, excavating truth and insight from previously-unearthed journals kept by a free Black woman during the Civil War and its aftermath. Whitehead refers to her approach as “Feminist Herstorical Investigation,“ a project of producing “critical knowledge.“ A powerful speaker and former public school educator, Dr. Whitehead now brings a guide to using these materials to help K-12 students develop their own critical historical understanding. Please join us to celebrate the publication of these works, and to hear from Dr. Whitehead on the importance and value of these methods - whether you're a student, teacher, parent, or curious independent scholar!

We'll still have the new book available, but in light of the recent failure of the Ferguson grand jury to indict Michael Brown's killer, Dr. Whitehead requested we refocus the event.
