Mercy Killers, the award winning one-person play by Julliard-trained actor and playwright Michael Milligan will be coming to Baltimore FOR FREE onSaturday, June 28th, 6 pm, thanks to Healthcare is a Human Right - Maryland and Single Payer Action.
Mercy Killers is a one-person play about an auto mechanic who gives his statement to the police regarding the suspicious death of his terminally ill wife, and in the process unravels our country's immorality. The man's struggles with his insurance company, his bank and ultimately his own beliefs are a testament to the trials of the uninsured and under-insured in post-recession America. Milligan's play, first and foremost, is an attempt to speak out on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of individuals who have spiraled into bankruptcy as a result of medical debt. In his performance, however, actor, Michael Milligan, does much more than this. With an eye toward individualism and the American dream, Mercy Killers ultimately calls more than medical reform- encouraging us to reflect on the values that comprise our culture today.
Mercy Killers is a must see for those affected by a health care system in need of reform, for those whose strength and self-reliance has not brought them the success they were promised, and for everyone else as well. After the one hour play there will be a brief discussion on how to get involved in the growing statewide movement for universal healthcare!
Michael Milligan: Actor and author of Mercy Killers is a veteran Broadway and off Broadway actor; Julliard School trained and the 2001 winner of the John Houseman Award.
