Teresa Forcades, a radical feminist nun and leader of the Catalan Proces Constituient (constitutional process) movement that agitates for an autonomous Catalonia, to be governed by people's participatory (as distinct from representative) democratic assemblies, will be passing through Baltimore on the way to a West Coast conference to which she has been invited and would very much like to meet with local radical activists. An outspoken critic of her church, which she has described as misogynist and patriarchal, Theresa started out as an MD specialized in public health and, after joining the convent at Monestir de Montserrat, near Barcelona, has also written critical theological works on topics such as Queer Theology and the left-activist nun Simone Weil, as well as tracts on the current economic and political crisis in Spain and throughout Europe. For more information, see http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/may/17/teresa-forcades-nun-on-mission or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teresa_Forcades. She will be stopping by Red Emma's for a talk/conversation on the "Indignados" movement in Catalonia and elsewhere in austerity-stricken Europe.
