Red Emma's
An American city characterized by systemic poverty and exclusion, racialized displacement and disinvestment - but also a flourishing culture of creativity that has captured the imagination of global musicians, artists and tastemakers. These words describe Houston, but could just as well refer to Baltimore (and myriad other urban centers in the Neoliberal era). Journalist Lance Walker, author of the dual works Houston Rap and Houston Rap Tapes, joins Baltimore zinester and cultural maven Lawrence Burney (of True Laurels and KAHLON) to discuss the intersection between devastated landscapes and the indigenous avant-garde in these two cities!
