Sex scenes can be tough to write. If you can get past your own authorial discomfort, you still have to contend with multiple characters, orifices, and limbs. You have to scale a veritable mountain of cliché and find a way to say something fresh and new about the oldest activity in human existence. In this one-off workshop, we’ll think about writing at the intersection of the physical and metaphysical, discuss how to advance characterization through embodiment, and think about sex as communication and conflict. No previous experience required and no mandatory sharing. Come ready to generate material and have fun in the process! NB: a good sex scene doesn’t have to feature good sex. Everything from the steamy (NORMAL PEOPLE) to the cringey (“Cat Person”) encouraged.
