Let's come together in a poetry/spoken word open mic of justice, conscious thought, spirituality, fam, real life—whatever advances the village!

We want to be free. From the mental and emotional cages forced upon us by an oppressive society, and from the literal ones that carceral systems wish to throw us into. We want to be free in the streets of Baltimore, and from the River to the Sea! We must use any means necessary to achieve that freedom—including the arts, and poetry in particular, to strengthen us and to communicate our liberatory messages!

Let's come together in a poetry/spoken word open mic of justice, conscious thought, spirituality, fam, real life—whatever advances the village! In the tradition of Emma Goldman’s “Mother Earth” magazine, come drop some rad 'fiyah' on us, or contribute just with your presence and energy! By the way: it’s a non-erotic poetry, non-“Love Jones” type of evening, so we ask that you not go there. (And, almost needless to say, leave the misogyny, homophobia and other unnecessary ish outside!)

There could be no more important time than now to feature the powerful poetry of Amin tMK (fka Amin Drew Law), a Palestinian-American poet, writing facilitator, teaching artist, rap vocalist, podcaster and organizer with a decade-long career in DC’s arts scene. He’s a two-time DC Grand Slam poetry champion, Southern Fried Slam poetry champion and four-time member of Busboys & Poets’ prestigious Beltway Slam team. Amin's spoken word poetry has been seen on TV One's Verses and Flow, Button Poetry, Slam Find and All Def Poetry, including his critically acclaimed piece "Unsaid," which has garnered millions of views over multiple platforms. Amin is the co-founder of InnerCityLeft, a politically radical label and media platform. His music has been praised for its melodic qualities, clever lyrics, and poignant political statements, and two of his singles, “Stages of Grief” and “Hunan Express,” were nominated for the 2022 Wammy Awards Hip-Hop Song of the Year category. https://innercityleft.com/

Holdin’ it down for the evening is Analysis—poet/spoken word artist, author, rad minister and bookseller, educator, justice & human rights person… Y’all know what’s up!   www.facebook.com/analysisthepoet   Twitter and Instagram: @analysisthepoet CashApp: $AnalysisThePoet

The mic list will be ready for you at Emma’s so you can get on the mic and share something with us! Additionally, we’ll pass the bucket—physically and electronically—to give something to our featured poet and to help build for the future. Please support independent artists!

Remember: PEACE, JUSTICE, POETRY! Will we see you there?
