Autumn leaves.  Warm, fair trade coffee or tea.  Thought-provoking poetry.  Sounds nice, doesn’t it?  Join us for a poetry/spoken word open mic of justice, conscious thought, spirituality, fam, real life—whatever advances the village!  In the tradition of Emma Goldman’s Mother Earth magazine, come drop some progressive “fiyah” on us, or contribute just with your presence and energy!  

How about this for some awesomeness: Natalie E. Illum is featuring! Natalie is a performance poet, disability activist and storyteller living in Washington, DC.  She is a founding board member of the Mothertongue poetry series, a DC women's open mic that lasted 15 years.  Her work has appeared the anthologies Word Warriors: 35 Women of the Spoken Word Revolution, Full Moon on K Street, and will appear in the upcoming Write Bloody collection We Will Be Shelter.  Her stories have appeared in Feminist Studies and on NPR's Snap Judgment.  She has competed on the National Poetry Slam circuit since 2008, and is the 2013 Beltway Poetry Grand Slam Champion.  Natalie has toured with many national artists, including Michelle Tea, Eileen Myles, Buddy Wakefield and Andrea Gibson.  Her writing centers around disability, identity and autobiography.  She recently started a position as a guest blogger with the Huffington Post.  She has an MFA in creative writing from American University, and teaches workshops in a variety of venues. www.natalieillum.net https://www.facebook.com/natalie.e.illum Twitter/Instagram: poetryrox Performance Series Campaign: http://www.gofundme.com/thebodiesvisibleseries   Holdin’ it down for the evening is Analysis--poet & spoken word artist, organizer, minister, activist, educator, consultant… Y’all know what’s up!   www.facebook.com/analysisthepoet Twitter: AnalysisThePoet   MIC LIST OPENS AT 7:00pm!     (Mature language and themes may be involved; not suggested for younger children.)
