As an exploration of the human condition, journal of various worries also serves as a ritual of sorts for raum, with each piece anchored in their distinct confessional voice. A refrain of “dear diary” permeates the collection, blurring the lines between personal and performance—a duality that has continued to recur throughout raum’s expansive multidisciplinary creative career, and a testament to Richard Hugo’s assertion that “all good serious poems are born in obsession.”
nat raum (they/them) is a queer disabled artist and writer based on unceded Piscataway and Susquehannock land in Baltimore. They hold an MFA from the University of Baltimore and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. nat is the editor-in-chief of fifth wheel press and the author of origin trilogy, journal of various worries, with gasoline, and many chapbooks, full-length collections, and photography publications. They are a contributing writer for the Baltimore Beat, with other publishers of their work including Split Lip Magazine, Muzzle Magazine, Poetry Online, Poet Lore, beestung, and more.
Dallas Atlas (they/he) is a Dominican poet who loves the moon, matcha, and most things pink. His work has appeared in Acentos Review, Bellingham Review, Dragonfly, and God's Cruel Joke.
