The #DakotaAccessPipeline has been referred to as the Black Snake. On Friday the 13th we are calling you to come out and close your bank accounts with the various banks that are still funding the pipeline. We are feeding it with our money so we need to #StarveTheSnake in order to kill it.On WEDNESDAY, JAN 11, we will have a TEACH-IN! where we will cover things such as: -Updates from the main camp -The history of the Great Sioux Nation’s dispossessions of lands -How banks work (and why your money matters) -How to switch to a local credit union -Connections between local water issues -History of Boycotts/Divestment and why it matters &&&MORE!Many people think we have reached a victory in light of the Army Corps of Engineers' statement regarding the Dakota Access Pipeline. In fact, the war is not over. This statement does not guarantee that Energy Transfer Partners will not continue to drill under the River. We need to keep the fire burning and let them know we will not stop protesting until they remove the pipeline. We need to let them know we are still watching. We need to let them know our money will not be used for the terrorization of indigenous people, and destruction of sacred land. We need to let them know we are are aware of their ties to local water issues. We want this to be a nation wide event, even if you are not in Baltimore you are encouraged to close your account the day/week of this event, and post a picture with the hashtag #StarveTheSnake. Those who have traveled to Standing Rock are also encouraged to come and share their experiences.
