Red Emma's
Red Emma’s Mother Earth Poetry Vibe—featuring Angelique Palmer!  WHAT: A poetry/spoken word open mic hosted by Analysis and featuring Angelique Palmer! WHEN: Saturday, February 4, 2017, 6:30pm—9:00pm (mic list opens at 6:00pm) WHERE: Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse, 30 W. North Ave., Baltimore, MD 21201 WHY: Because you love justice, and you love the arts!  https://www.facebook.com/events/926683434098778/   It’s FREE!  (Please support the coffeehouse and the feature!)  Indeed, as Gil Scot-Heron used to sing, it’s “winter in America.”  We need to shore up with poetry!  Join us for an open mic of justice, conscious thought, spirituality, fam, real life—whatever advances the village!  In the tradition of Emma Goldman’s Mother Earth magazine, come drop some progressive “fiyah” on us, or contribute just with your presence and energy!  By the way: it’s a non-erotic poetry, non-“love jones” type of venue, so we ask that you not go there.  (And, almost needless to say, leave the misogyny, homophobia and other unnecessary ish outside!)  How cool is this: the really-awesome-person-dope-poet Angelique Palmer is coming to hang out with us at the Vibe!  Angelique is an author from Miami, by way of New Orleans, that now calls Northern Virginia home. The Creative Writing graduate from Florida State University was poetically born and raised on the Literary Café and Poetry Lounge stage in North Miami; she’s a “Café Baby!”  Formerly an elementary school Creative Writing instructor at the American Poetry Museum in Washington, DC, and a volunteer with Split This Rock and DC Youth Slam, Angelique now concentrates on her teaching career, honing her talent and building community.  In 2015 she was a finalist at the Women of the World Poetry Slam in New Mexico, a member of the A Room of Her Own Foundation’s writing retreat and a member of the Host City Committee for the Individual World Poetry Slam that took place in Washington, DC.  Since making her feature debut in Miami, 2008, Angelique has brought her brand of vulnerability and passion to many stages, coffee houses and corporate events all over Washington, DC as well Atlanta, Charlotte, Jersey City, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh.  A former TV news producer turned elementary teacher, Angelique has nearly two decades of parenting experience, and an affinity for a blessing known as pastry! http://angeliquepalmer.wixsite.com/poetteachermother  Holdin’ it down for the evening is Analysis—poet/spoken word artist, educator, minister, organizer, activist, consultant, bookseller… Y’all know what’s up!    www.facebook.com/analysisthepoet  Twitter @AnalysisThePoet  MIC LIST OPENS AT 6:00pm!    (Mature language and themes may be involved; not suggested for younger children.)    The evening is brought to you by Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse, a worker-owned and collectively-operated restaurant, coffee roaster, bookstore, and community events space located in Baltimore's Station North neighborhood that is dedicated to putting principles of solidarity and sustainability into practice in a democratic workplace!  Here you’ll find delicious, transparently traded, organic coffee, espresso and tea, as well as a selection of vegan and vegetarian food.  Get here early so you can check out the books and periodicals on a wide range of topics, with a focus on radical politics and culture.  Plus, there’s free internet access!    http://redemmas.org/   https://www.facebook.com/redemmas  Twitter: @redemmas  Remember: PEACE, JUSTICE, POETRY!!   Will we see you there?  : )
