Red Emma's
WHAT: A poetry/spoken word open mic hosted by Analysis and featuring D. Colin!  WHEN: Saturday, May 7, 2016, 7:30pm—10:00pm (mic list opens at 7:00pm)  WHERE: Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse, 30 W. North Ave., Baltimore, MD 21201  WHY: Because you love justice, and you love the arts!https://www.facebook.com/events/1052885828086177/   It’s FREE!  (Please support the coffeehouse and the feature!)  Pi devan na we! Don't know what that means? Well, let's just say that you should be at the Vibe this May 7th, and up ahead we'll see and hear and feel a poetic experience that strengthens and inspires us! Let's come together in an open mic of justice, conscious thought, spirituality, fam, real life—whatever advances the village! In the tradition of Emma Goldman’s Mother Earth magazine, come drop some progressive “fiyah” on us, or contribute just with your presence and energy!  By the way: it’s a non-erotic poetry, non-“love jones” type of venue, so we ask that you not go there.  (And, almost needless to say, leave the misogyny, homophobia and other unnecessary ish outside!)  Our feature, D. Colin, is a Haitian American poet living in New York's Capital Region where she works with young people and the community.  In 2012, she competed with the Nitty Gritty Slam Team at the National Poetry Slam in Charlotte, NC. This year she competed at the Women of the World International Poetry Slam in Brooklyn, NY. She's earned a BA in English from Southern CT State University and an MA in Africana Studies from the University at Albany, SUNY. Her work often explores blackness, gender, social justice and culture. Her debut collection, Dreaming in Kreyol, was released November 2015 and captures poetic portraits of her heritage, family and the rich history of Haiti. www.dcolin.com   Holdin’ it down for the evening is Analysis—poet/spoken word artist, educator, minister, organizer, activist, consultant, bookseller…Y’all know what’s up!     www.facebook.com/analysisthepoet   Twitter @AnalysisThePoet  MIC LIST OPENS AT 7:00pm!    (Mature language and themes may be involved; not suggested for younger children.)    The evening is brought to you by Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse, a worker-owned and collectively-operated restaurant, coffee roaster, bookstore, and community events space located in Baltimore's Station North neighborhood that is dedicated to putting principles of solidarity and sustainability into practice in a democratic workplace! Here you’ll find delicious, transparently traded, organic coffee, espresso and tea, as well as a selection of vegan and vegetarian food. Get here early so you can check out the books and periodicals on a wide range of topics, with a focus on radical politics and culture. Plus, there’s free internet access!     http://redemmas.org/   https://www.facebook.com/redemmas    Remember: PEACE, JUSTICE, POETRY!! Will we see you there?  : )
