Red Emma's
If we ever needed poetry, we need it now! Join us for an open mic of justice, conscious thought, spirituality, fam, real life—whatever advances the village! In the tradition of Emma Goldman’s Mother Earth magazine, come drop some progressive “fiyah” on us, or contribute just with your presence and energy!  By the way: it’s a non-erotic poetry, non-“love jones” type of venue, so we ask that you not go there. (And, almost needless to say, leave the misogyny, homophobia and other unnecessary ish outside!)

There’s young poetic “fiyah” raining down from New Jersey, in the form of Sean Aliño! Sean is a poet, performer, and filmmaker born in the Philippines and raised in the United States. He writes about his experiences being a member of his family, a person of color, an immigrant, and queer, as well living life at those intersections. He was a member the 2014-2016 Montclair State University slam teams for the College Union’s Poetry Slam Invitational and the 2014 Urban Word NYC Slam Team for Brave New Voices. He is also the 2015 Grand Slam Champion of Loser Slam as well as a member of the 2015 Loser Slam Team. He is a part of the Elly Sh’Von Poetry Collective, formerly known as the 2016 MSU Slam Team, which has featured at The Nuyorican Poet’s cafe, and placed 7th internationally. Sean was also awarded Best Persona Poem at CUPSI 2016. He was part of the 2016 Philadelphia Fuze poetry slam team. Recently, he represented Jersey City Slam at the 2016 Individual World Poetry Slam in FlagStaff, Arizona. His performances have been featured on Push Poetry, Slamfind, Write About Now, etc. When he is not writing poetry he is writing poetry, or dancing.Holdin’ it down for the evening is Analysis—poet/spoken word artist, educator, minister, organizer, activist, consultant, bookseller… Y’all know what’s up! www.facebook.com/analysisthepoetTwitter @AnalysisThePoetMIC LIST OPENS AT 6:00pm!
