Join Rise Up And Sing for an evening of multicultural singing, led by Peter Blood and Annie Patterson, creators of the beloved songbook Rise Up Singing, as well as Baltimore's own international vocalist and activist Lea Gilmore. This concert is a benefit for Tubman House, a community space in Sandtown-Winchester that assists residents in a process of transformation that will make the community whole, while providing resources to meet their needs and thrive. By facilitating community cookouts and gatherings, a clothing and food pantry, urban farming, political education, and other programming, T.H. creates a healthy environment for children to grow and live. Named for the great abolitionist who freed hundreds of enslaved people, TH works to bring self-determination to our communities so that all residents have a role and a voice in the policies and practices that affect their lives. TH is a project of the 1619 Coalition, which includes the American Friends Service Committee's Friend of a Friend program, as well as Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle.

LEA GILMORE is a blues, gospel, and jazz singing civic activist who has lent her voice, literally and figuratively, to advocacy for the underserved of the world. Among other positions, she has served as the Deputy Director of the ACLU and Program Director for the Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers. She currently leads monthly Bmore Community Sings events. Co-creators of Rise Up Singing and the 2015 sequel Rise Again, ANNIE PATTERSON & PETER BLOOD have played a central role in helping create a quiet revolution of group singing in North America. They are currently touring the U.S. & Canada with Rise Again, joined by many of the musicians who have songs in their new collection. Annie is a singer-songwriter, banjo frailer and jazz vocalist with the swing trio, Girls from Mars. Peter edited Pete Seeger’s autobiography, Where Have All the Flowers Gone. Pete Seeger worked closely with Annie & Peter on the creation of both their songbooks. They have joined with other musicians in launching The Carry It On Fund, continuing the work of Pete & Toshi Seeger https://carryiton.org/ You can find more information on their work at www.riseupandsing.org. Tickets at the door will be on a donation basis, with a suggested donation of $15-25 for adults and $5 for children under 18. You can also pre-order tickets on this site for $20 (adults).
