This is a benefit for Heart's Place Services!
Founded in 1988, Heart's Place Shelter was a warm, compassionate overnight emergency shelter that provided counseling, meals, and fellowship for homeless people in Baltimore for 25 years. As a haven for homeless men, women, and children, Heart’s Place was the only shelter in Baltimore that welcomed families, regardless of gender and marital status.
Heart’s Place Shelter is now Heart’s Place Services, providing homeless Baltimore City Public School students (and 2 family members) with backpacks of non-perishable food for two days (Saturday and Sunday). The majority of students in the school district (84%) receive free or low-cost meals at school. Thus children in Baltimore City are especially in need of food outside of school hours, and especially over the weekend. Heart’s Place Services coordinates this program with the Maryland Food Bank and provides volunteers who deliver the backpacks to students at school. The program has expanded to include the current delivery of 69 backpacks to students in need in four schools. Each backpack costs $35. Please help sustain and grow this important program to feed the more than 1,700 registered homeless students and their families. Thanks for your support!
