Oleander
school for negro publishers

Oleander School is a free summer workshop series for Baltimore’s Black writers, artists and organizers. At the end of our 10 weeks together, you'll have gained hands-on experience and support with the zine publishing process. Each participant will publish a zine of their own. Workshop topics include black zine history, writing, design, and more.

In addition to providing instructional classes Thursday evenings from June 5th to September 11th in Red Emma’s Free School Classroom, Oleander offers five open studio sessions for participants to enjoy unstructured time to create and connect with other publishers. Full schedule will be released to participants by May.

In an effort to recruit participants who can attend most or all of our classes and benefit from joining our publishing community, we have requested that applicants fill out the form below and join us for an in-person interest meeting on April 13th at 7pm. Selected participants will be notified by April 21st of their invitation to join Oleander’s first cohort. We’re excited to meet you!

Applications will remain open until April 11th at 11:59pm. Check the Community Agreements & FAQ for more info and feel free to reach out to info@redemmas.org with any questions. If you would like to support this workshop, please donate here.
